Just as our weather is becoming warmer and more beautiful, it is time to celebrate National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. This May, take a minute to remember the many benefits physical fitness can have for you and your family.
Children and adolescents – Physical activity can improve muscular fitness and bone and heart health.
Adults – Physical activity can lower risk for heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and some types of cancer.
Older adults – Physical activity can lower the risk of falls and improve cognitive functioning (like learning and judgment skills).
So get outside or in to the gym and get moving! Even small steps like taking a walk after dinner, parking farther from your work building, taking the steps instead of the elevator can make a difference. Encourage your friends, co-workers and schools to join in this month and throughout the year.
