Aetna Exits Small Group ACA Market in 16 Western PA Counties
September 28, 2016
Effective January 1, 2017, Aetna will discontinue small group (those under 51 full time employees/full time equivalents) Affordable Care Act (ACA) metallic plans in the following counties of western Pennsylvania: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Bedford, Butler, Crawford, Erie, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Mercer, Somerset, Warren, Washington and Westmoreland.
For qualified groups effected by this change, Aetna will offer an Aetna Funding Advantage (AFA) proposal. The offered AFA plans will differ greatly from the ACA plans and in some cases, pending a group's medical underwriting, be more affordable. Aetna hopes to push many of their ACA small groups to AFA plans in 2017 across all of the Pennsylvania marketplace.
